‘Here, Out at the West’ by Mita Chowdhury

Mita Chowdhury Exhibition

6 March to 26 April 2023

Presented as part of Cultural Diversity Week

‘Here, Out at the West’ is a conceptual multimedia exhibition in response to the question’s "Where am I positioned in this society, or is my existence represented and recognised? Does the cliche version of the Australian landscape represent any trace of me, my culture or the so-called multicultural society?". In this project, all the materials have been selected deliberately as representative of cultural identities. The project aims to represent a cultural and demographical picture of the West and its people.

This exhibition was presented as part of Cultural Diversity Week, Saturday 11 March to Thursday 23 March 2023.

About the artist:

Hasina Chowdhury Mita, mostly known as Mita Chowdhury, is a multidisciplinary artist with a principal focus on painting. She was born and raised in Bangladesh and migrated to Australia in 2007 in her early twenties. As a woman of colour and living within the diaspora, Mita now considers herself a ‘Global Citizen’. Her artistic practice investigates the ideas of identity, gender bias, feminist discourse, globalisation, migration, colonial and post-colonial discourse, marginality, and intersectionality. Mita is the recipient of the RMIT University Cultural vision scholarship for 2022.
