Friday 1 April to Monday 27 June 2022

‘Nostalgia For A Time That Never Was’ by Phuong Ngo directly dealt with the complexities of colonial legacies of French occupied Vietnam, reflecting on the ways in which this history has traversed the globe following the fall of Saigon, and subsequently how it informs the Vietnamese diaspora, intersects, and interacts with white Australia’s (and the West) colonial and racist past and present.

This exhibition took place across the Substation (Newport) and Wood Street Art Space (Laverton). Presented as part of PHOTO 2022, the exhibition was designed to connect the two sites in a dialogue about place, occupation and identity.

Laneway Gallery is an outdoor exhibition space at Woods Street Art Space in Laverton. Part of the space’s overall annual programming, this is one of a series of commissioned displays by artists responding to social, historic, or environmental themes. Learn more about Laneway Gallery.
