Fishing for Harmony by Hayden Dewar
In Fishing for harmony, Hayden Dewar strives to find a balance between the natural and man-made worlds. The title is a reference to the Luzzu (Maltese fishing boat) and the many diverse cultures in Altona living harmoniously.
It also references the idea of finding harmony with our surrounding local native fauna, especially endangered and threatened species like the swift parrot and growling grass frog. The work celebrates the endangered native species of the area, and depicts the interesting contrast of nature and industry that can be found in Altona.
Hayden Dewar has been creating murals since 2004, including projects for private and commercial clients, and a large number of council-initiated projects. These projects range from graffiti-prevention strategy murals to place-making, public art, and commemorative murals. Most of Hayden’s work is in a signature narrative style that incorporates imaginative imagery, historical elements and native Australian flora and fauna. Themes explored through this imagery include history, the environment, the mythological, and the cycle of life.
