Newport Lakes Birdlife by Sarah Allen

A street art mural by artist Sarah Allen featuring birds and local wildlife in a water setting

This mural celebrates Newport Lakes, the former quarry site turned bushland oasis which attracts significant birdlife.

The mural design includes the iconic stepping stones of Newport Lakes and some of the bird species found there. From left to right they are the New Holland honeyeater, sacred kingfisher, (female) superb fairy-wren, Lewin’s rail, spotted pardalote, Eurasian coot and finally, the (male) pink robin, which has been sighted at Newport Lakes in 2024.

Sarah Allen is a visual artist from the western suburbs who enjoys birdwatching in Hobsons Bay. She is the author and illustrator of Busy Beaks, (Affirm Press, 2020) a children’s book introduction to Australia's birdlife.
