Midsumma in Hobsons Bay
Hobsons Bay City Council facilitates local activities and events each year as part of Midsumma Festival. Collectively, these events may be found in the Midsumma Westside program or to view full program visit www.midsumma.org.au.
International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT)
Each year, Hobsons Bay City Council raises the rainbow flag to acknowledge International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT). IDAHOBIT is the international day for taking action for a prejudice-free world regardless of gender identity or sexual orientation.
IDAHOBIT began in 2004 and is observed annually on 17 May to mark the date in 1990 when the World Health Organisation removed homosexuality from the list of mental disorders. Despite this, many members of the LGBTIQA+ community still face discrimination, prejudice and stigmatisation.
Community led initiatives
Council provides resources to the community through grant funding to support community led activities, services and funding opportunities for major and special events, local events, festivals, and small events or short lead events. See here for more information:
