Young leaders

Our young leaders participated in this year's Western Region Youth Forum about an issue important to them - intergenerational connection. They presented on the gap between younger and older generations, and the lack of opportunities to socialise, get to know or connect with older people. With ideas and input from their peers from other councils, they have created an action plan to design and run programs addressing these gaps.

Prior to this year’s forum, which took place on 12 April 2024, these eleven young leaders came together with our youth services team to focus on their leadership development skills. In these sessions youth development officers supported the group by guiding them to develop their issue to be presented at the forum. This included workshops on public speaking and preparation for the event.

The young leaders group will continue to work on their intergenerational project for the rest of the year.

Applications for Young Leaders 2024 are currently closed and 2025 applications will open in Term 4, 2024.
