The Stories of Newport Lakes – Author Talk with Dr Dominique Hes

Local resident Dr Dominque Hes undertook research to document the history of Newport Lakes, a project largely driven by two female Hobsons Bay councillors in the 1980s and inspired by the Buchart Gardens in Canada. Her research included engagement and input from the local community to create The Stories of Newport Lakes: Creating Regeneration Capacity. Launched in late 2024, the book tells the story from the original Pavey Quarries to the pivotal moment when the now superb wetlands and parklands almost became a rubbish tip.

Come along to hear from Dr Dominique Hes as she shares stories and discusses a much-treasured part of Newport and Hobsons Bay.
