Major events road closures

2024/25 NYE road closures

Changed traffic conditions, including temporary road closures, will be in place along The Strand, Nelson Place and surrounding streets in Williamstown on New Year’s Eve (31/12/24). This will ensure emergency vehicles can access the area if needed and support the number of people who will be gathering along the foreshore in Williamstown and Newport.

Roads will be closed from 5.30pm on Tuesday 31 December until 1.30am on Wednesday 1 January 2024 at:

  • The Strand from North Road to Ferguson Street, Williamstown
  • Nelson Place, between Ferguson Street and Thompson Street, Williamstown, including Syme Street

Vehicles can exit only after 5.30pm until 7pm on Tuesday 31 December, and will not be able to enter or exit the above streets once the closure is in effect from 7pm. No vehicle movement is permitted within the road closure between 7pm and 1.30am. The roads will reopen at 1.30am on Wednesday 1 January 2025.
