Road Rehabilitation Program

A road is rehabilitated by laying a new road surface. This requires major prior works, including alterations to the kerb and channel, streetscape, street trees, and storm water drainage.

Road Rehabilitation projects under way or due to commence are listed below.

Cecil Street Williamstown - Road Rehabilitation Parker Street to Cole Street & Thompson Street to Kanowna Street

Works are to commence in early November 2022 and will include new kerb and channel, additional drainage, installation of raised crossings for safer pedestrian access and new road surface.

Knight Street Williamstown - Road Rehabilitation Victoria Street to Bayview Street

Works are to commence early November 2022 and will include the reconstruction of the road pavement, and the addition of some drainage, replacement of kerb and channel and vehicle crossings.

Aviation Road Laverton - Traffic Safety Improvement Works between Railway Ave and the freeway

Works are to commence in November 2022 and to include the installation of a raised crossing and speed humps to reduce traffic speed and increase pedestrian safety.

Maher Road Laverton – Bladin Street to Richard Williams Avenue

Works are currently underway to construct a new shared user path on the south side of Maher Road between Bladin Street and Richard Williams Avenue. Works are to also include the construction of raised crossings; these act to reduce speed and provide safer access for pedestrians to the new shared path. Works are expected to be completed before Christmas 2022.

Barnes Road Altona North – New shared path between Chambers Road and Kororoit Creek trail

Construction of new 2.0m wide shared path is currently underway to connect Chambers Road and the Kororoit Creek trail, works are expected to be completed before Christmas 2022. 

Hall Street Newport Road Rehabilitation - New Street to Burleigh Street

Works include the installation of new drainage, kerb and channel, resurfacing and installation of new bicycle lane. Works are expected to commence in early 2023.

The Strand, Williamstown - Road Rehabilitation

Works include the rehabilitation of the road as well as formalising  the car parking with asphalt and line markings. New trees will be planted in April 2024 when the planting season begins. Works on the road are expected to commence in early August 2023.
