Hobsons Bay 360 #104: 2024 Street Art Program – Five new murals bringing vibrancy to Hobsons Bay

Street art is known to add character and foster a sense of belonging in our built environments. Council’s 2024 Street Art Program is nearing completion, bringing five vibrant new artworks to various sites across Hobsons Bay with more to come. This initiative aligns with the Council's public art strategy, Better Places commitments, and the 2023 Pitch Your Project opportunities. By placing these artworks in high-traffic areas like shopping strips, Council has ensured that the community can enjoy these stunning and dynamic pieces.

Program Details:

In 2023, we invited expressions of interest from experienced street artists for a new series of street artworks. Artists were selected based on their draft concepts, which needed to reflect local themes such as biodiversity, sustainability, and multiculturalism.

Completed Murals:

  • Vernon Street (Tandoori Flames), South Kingsville –by Sarah Allen

  • South Kingsville Community Centre, South Kingsville –by Lynn Bremner and Jess Wilson

  • Corner of Challis Street and Woods Street, Newport –by Damien Arena (pictured)

  • Blyth Street (Pier Street corner), Altona –by Stephanie Cartledge
