Life in, and connection to, Hobsons Bay

I first moved to Williamstown in 1981, living in a rambling share house with five others in Osborne St, including my partner, John. A few years later, we moved to the heart of Newport where we bought our first house in preparation for our first child. Nellie. It was a great location, just a hop skip and a jump from Newport library, AND storytime.

Jackson joined his sister for the stories and activities for the next few years. We married in Williamstown Gardens in 1988, then a stint in Northern Territory was followed by more time in Newport. In 1989, I, with other local women launched a new enterprise, the Home Environment Group, supported by council and housed in a small building behind Newport Library. Here we raised awareness about what people in the home could do to support environmental principles.

I was involved in the Toy Library nearby, and taught drama at Spotswood Primary, and other local schools. In 1993, we moved to Park Crescent with our new addition Sam. There we raised our family, hosted events and generally celebrated the Williamstown community, beach and, of course, the fabulous bike riding. I feel very lucky to have lived in such a beautiful and vibrant place throughout the past thirty years.
