What you need
A compatible Apple device (see below).
Device Compatibility
You can check what devices are compatible on the official apple website here.
There is a guide for how to identify what iPad model you have here.
Before you start
You may need to charge your Apple Pencil. To do this attach your Apple Pencil to the magnetic connector on the long side of your iPad.
When you attach your Apple Pencil (2nd generation) to your iPad, the battery level will appear near the top of the screen for a moment. If it doesn't appear, make sure Bluetooth is turned on.
How to pair your Apple pencil
Attach your Apple Pencil to the magnetic connector on the side of your iPad (same as charging position).
If your Apple Pencil won't pair with your iPad
- Check the connection with your Apple Pencil to your iPad: Centre your Apple Pencil on the magnetic connector, which is on the side of your iPad with the volume buttons.
- Restart your iPad, then try to pair again.
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth and make sure that Bluetooth is turned on.
- On the same screen, find your Apple Pencil under My Devices. If you find it, tap Information icon. Then tap Forget this Device.
- Connect your Apple Pencil into your iPad and tap the Pair button when it appears after a few seconds.
- If the Pair button doesn't appear, wait for 1 minute while your Apple Pencil charges. Then try connecting your Apple Pencil again and wait until the Pair button appears.
- If the Pair button still isn't appearing, contact Apple Support.
