Energy efficiency

As part of the ongoing commitments made by the federal and state governments to reduce greenhouse emissions, the Building Regulations and the Building Code of Australia have been changed. This will help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and conserve water by efficiently using energy and water.

The introduction of a Six Star Energy Rating system on all new residential developments and may incorporate solar hot water units with gas backups, as well as installation of a water tank for toilets.

Other factors to be considered under the rating system will be the geographic location of the development, orientation of the building, types of materials used, and the extent and type of window glazing.
