Bin lid changeover
If your general rubbish bin has a dark green lid, we’ll be swapping it for a red lid during February 2025.
What you need to do
During February, if you have a general rubbish bin with a dark green lid, please leave it out until 6pm on the day your rubbish is collected.
Please do this each week in February until your bin has a red lid.
If you have a red-lidded general rubbish bin, you don’t need to do anything.
Why is Council swapping bin lids?
This is part of a state-wide move to make sure everyone in Victoria has the same coloured bins. It’ll make talking about waste and recycling much easier.
The change is being led by the state government who has given councils funding to make all general rubbish bin lids red.
You can learn more about the state's bin standardisation project on the Victorian Government's website.
Please note
- There are no changes to your waste and recycling collection schedule.
- Your bin will not be removed. Only the lid is being swapped.
- If we see that you have a damaged bin, we will come back within three business days to give you a new bin. In this case, we’ll put a sticker on your bin to let you know what to expect.
- Other bin lids will stay the same. This is the last stage of our transition to a four-bin system.
- The project is receiving funding from the Victorian Government.
