Gem Pier
Gem Pier, located at the end of Syme Street, is the perfect starting point for exploring early Victoria’s maritime history as well as the many attractions, dining establishments and outdoor activities on offer in Williamstown.
The HMAS Castlemaine is permanently docked at Gem Pier. This minesweeper was launched in 1941 and saw active service in New Guinea and Northern Australia during WWII. Classed as a Heritage Honour Ship, the Castlemaine is now a floating museum and visitors can inspect a fascinating collection of nautical exhibits and memorabilia.
Gem Pier is also the base for the pleasant ferry ride to and from Melbourne’s Southgate, the starting point for Melbourne Seaplanes and a brilliant location to go for a walk and take in the lovely view of the Melbourne skyline.
