From Water and Land by Julian Clavijo is a series of works that explores the connection between humans and living creatures, focusing on endangered species and potential future animals that may evolve after we're gone.

As of 2023, up to 150 species go extinct daily, a rate 1,000 to 10,000 times faster than natural extinctions, largely driven by human activity. Destruction of habitats, pollution, and climate change threaten animals like the vaquita porpoise and Sumatran tiger.

While Earth can regenerate, the future of humanity remains uncertain. If we continue our destructive path, will we too, become extinct? In a world without humans, nature would heal, creating new creatures as reminders of what we've lost.

About the artist:

Originally from Colombia, Julian Clavijo’s creative practice focuses on capturing humanity's essence by drawing from childhood's joy, curiosity, and innocence. It also addresses the urgent need to conserve the planet and protect endangered species for future generations. Known for his detailed large oil portraits of children in a unique quasi-photorealistic style, his work evokes introspection, emotion, and reflection on innocence.
