Nonlimerent // Monosexual: an Aromantic and Asexual History
A-spec identity across the ages
Opening: Saturday 1 February, 1pm
“Nonlimerent” coined by Dorothy Tennov in 1979, and “monosexual” by Karl Maria Kertbeny in 1868, are terms that have historically held similar meanings to “aromantic” and “asexual”. This history exhibition and art show will explore the key forces, individuals and events that have shaped a-spec identity over time.
Researcher and producer: Luciella Scarlett (she/they)
Luciella is the event producer and researcher, whose other hobbies include drawing, painting, queer advocacy and making a general nuisance of themself. Her illustrations and writing have been published in works such as the feminist D&D supplement Uncaged Anthology and her various aro ace opinions have been aired in forums such as the 2024 Better Together Conference.
Artists: Emily Busch (she/her), Kate Wood (she/her) and Luciella Scarlett (she/they)
Emily is a Naarm-based theatre maker, seamstress, and costume designer with aspirations of accessibility within the theatre industry. Before discovering her passion for costume design, Emily’s roots were always in embroidery and the endless possibilities within those round wooden frames.
Kate is a writer and spoken word performer who writes poetry in her head much more often than on paper. Her other hobbies include researching oppression, violence and hate against the ace and aro community.
