'Tenya' – Gabi Briggs exhibition
Next date: Wednesday, 30 April 2025 | 12:00 AM
to Saturday, 10 May 2025 | 11:59 PM
Tenya, meaning "Us" in Anaiwan, explores Anaiwan cultural revitalisation through walking as practice. This new work by Anaiwan and Gumbayngirr artist Gabi Briggs, builds upon her 2024 work Arkan and Irbela. As she prepares for a 100km journey on Country, Tenya delves into language renewal and connection to land. This multi-layered sound and visual installation captures the process of communicating with Country, resulting in a song embedded within a larger narrative. Tenya extends Briggs' exploration of Anaiwan knowledge systems, intergenerational dialogue, and the profound relationship between identity and Place, echoing the sentiment: "I am located, therefore I am".
