C. R. Iliffe
Carly was born in a small town in Queensland known as Redcliffe in 1973, she spent most of her childhood traveling with her family up and down the east coast of Australia. Carly finally settled in Melbourne where she worked in the horse racing industry as a strapper for some of the top trainers in Flemington. After having her two daughters and a houseful of pets she wasn't able to work the early hours with her beloved horses anymore.
She started volunteering at the local school as a parent aide then was lucky enough after completing an Integration Aide course to find a position there. In her spare time she started writing stories and reading them to her daughters, they were her inspiration behind her first picture story book and with the help of her very artistic sister "Haylee's Dinosaur Dream Adventure" was published.
Carly got the inspiration to write Earthress from her two daughters. Every night she would make up stories to tell them at bedtime, they would always ask for more. She decided to write some of these stories down and eventually Earthress was born. This was the first book C.R.Iliffe wrote but she decided against publishing the book until she accepted it was finally ready for everyone to enjoy.
She still works at the local school as an Integration Aide and continues to write stories in her spare time.
Life in, and connection to, Hobsons Bay
Carly has lived in Hobsons Bay for the past 15 years. She's been working as an integration aide at Altona Green Primary for four years which has been very rewarding for her. The children she works with have played a part in Carly's inspiration when writing other children's stories.
